The Art and Science of Global Benchmarking in a Changing World
1:15-2:00 p.m.

Competitive benchmarking is an essential task in ensuring that benefit plans achieve their intended goals. Yet the purpose of this seemingly simple exercise is often misunderstood, leading to flawed conclusions. Aside from the typical operating challenges, such as insufficient normative data or expensive and time-consuming processes, companies often apply approaches and methodologies that are simple and expedient but inappropriate for the fundamental purposes of the benchmarking exercise. In this session, speakers will describe the various approaches—qualitative, quantitative, piecemeal benefit by benefit or integrated (total benefit, total compensation)—methodologies and other technical elements.
