Salary Range: 150k - 170k

Company Overview:
The Midwest Operating Engineers Fringe Benefit Funds (“Funds”) located in (Countryside, IL) is currently seeking a Director of Operations, reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Funds consist of five (5) Taft-Hartley benefit plans, including health, pension, retirement enhancement (a self-directed defined contribution plan), vacation, and apprenticeship. The Funds provide benefits to approximately 13,500 active members and their eligible dependents as well as 9,500 retirees and beneficiaries.

Position Summary:
The Director of Operations is a key member of the organization with oversight responsibilities for all operational aspects of Midwest Operating Engineers Fringe Benefit Funds. The Director of Operations deliverables are in the form of business management and administration efficiencies to include business systems and reporting; information technology; third party contract management; equipment and related resources; facilities; and security. This individual will oversee daily operations and drive service excellence for all stakeholders. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Administrative Manager to lead and implement the strategic planning efforts to ensure operational efficiency in accordance with the directives of the Board of Trustees.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure that consistent, efficient workflows are in place, yielding optimal productivity and performance
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration
  • Attend Board of Trustee meetings to gain an understanding of the direction the Board has set for the organization
  • Work with the Administrative Team to effectively implement and communicate directives from the Board of Trustees
  • Work with the Administrative Manager and Department Managers to establish strategic goals for increased operational efficiency and productivity
  • Analyze current operational processes and performance, develop and implement policies, workflows, and best practices to enhance process efficiency and accuracy
  • Identify and resolve escalated issues related to benefit administration operations
  • Identify and Lead special projects or initiatives
  • Serve as a Trustee on the Midwest Operating Engineers IT Services Corporation
  • Serve as a point of contact for all vendors and consultants
  • Respond to and resolve questions from Trustees, staff, members, vendors, and related organizations
  • Understand all the functions of the ISSI data system and serve as a liaison between Fund Office Staff and ISSI programmers to implement any system enhancements
  • Furnish reports to vendors and consultants as needed
  • Evaluate reporting procedures for efficiency and make recommendations for improvements as needed
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles for our key initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals
  • Prepare and deliver regular operational reports and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
  • Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of Business Experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in Taft-Hartley benefit administration is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated capabilities in leading a diverse workforce
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities and contribute to building a positive team spirit
  • Ability to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, collect and research data, and use intuition and experience to complement data

Specialized skills/technical knowledge

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, including Teams and Planner/Project)
  • Experience working in TPA, Insurance carrier
  • Project Management Certification desired or self-administered benefits environment and Salesforce
  • CEBS is a plus
