PBGC Posts FAQs on New My PAA Login Method; Transition Period Ends November 21

Published August 23, 2022

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) has announced that the login process for My Plan Administration Account (My PAA) has been modified to meet new federal cybersecurity requirements for public-facing websites—most notably, a requirement to implement two-factor authentication. My PAA enables pension plan professionals to electronically submit premium filings, payments, and requests to PBGC in accordance with PBGC's regulations. My PAA users may now log in via Login.gov, a secure sign in service used by the public to access participating government services. With this new process, practitioners can use the same email address and password to access all participating government services.

On August 22, 2022, PBGC modified My PAA to enable users to log in to My PAA via Login.gov. FAQs explain what users will need to do to set up a Login.gov account (if you don’t already have one) and use those credentials to log in to My PAA instead of current My PAA login credentials. Highlights include:

  • To facilitate a smooth transition, for a limited period of time after August 22, 2022, users will also be able to access their My PAA account using their current credentials (i.e., existing My PAA username and password). However, beginning on Monday, November 21, 2022, the only way you will be able to access your My PAA account will be using your Login.gov credentials. PBGC encourages you to adopt the new login method (Login.gov) the next time you need to access My PAA, so PBGC can assist in clearing up any potential questions or concerns prior to important filing and payment due dates.
  • Once you log in to My PAA using Login.gov, you will be automatically directed to your My PAA profile, which will remain unchanged. You will still be able to access all plans and roles to which you are currently associated.

As of August 22, 2022, this change will not affect how you login to PBGC’s e-filing portal for submitting reportable event filings, 4010 filings and certain multiemployer plan information. However, in the future, PBGC’s e-filing portal will be modified so that your Login.gov credentials will also be used to log in to the e-filing portal. PBGC anticipates this will happen in 2023. If you have an e-filing portal account, you will be notified, by email, well in advance of the change.
